Editorial:

It is hard to believe that four weeks ago I was writing my editorial literally as the fires began to rage in Victoria.

We all know what subsequently happened and the terrible toll they took. There is quite a bit of coverage in this issue, as the devastation to so many people’s lives is far from over. Help and support have flooded in from all over the world and I have been asked by many to extend their thanks via our publication as even emailing or phoning to say "thank you" is currently beyond some of the survivors both in state of mind and resource wise. What we must remember is that these people will need our ongoing support for months - years to come.

Peter Frost, President of DOGS Victoria has written ... We in Victoria have all been brought together by a most unlikely candidate - the worst bushfires in Australian history. We have been amazed at the amount of goods donated at KCC Park and the phenomenal response to our bushfire appeal, which is now more than $250,000. Members were concerned about each other and willing to help each other out with no questions asked.

Clubs all across the country are choosing to donate to this appeal rather than provide trophies and sashes to competitors and competitors are donating their prizes of dog food or other accessories right back to those affected by the bushfires. As Black Saturday becomes a horrible but distant memory and the rebuilding process begins, it is hoped that members of the dog world will continue to hold this fraternal attitude and continue to offer one another courtesy, respect and assistance where it is needed.

On the upside, more wonderful successes for Australian dogs, the Group at Westminster going to AmCh Cordmaker Field of Dreams (see page 16) BOB Cattle Dog to AmCh Kombinalong Super Nitrous AOM and BOB Border Collie to a Borderfame bred dog and the Group at Crufts to Eng Sh Ch/Aust Ch Hungargunn Bear Itn Mind, with DCC Bernese Mountain Dog to Aust Ch Branbern Royal Garter Via Meadowpark, and as always we would love to hear of more if someone has something to tell us.

Canberra and Bathurst Royals have just been held and everyone is gearing themselves up for the hectic round of shows held over the Easter period, especially in Sydney wth the Royal and many Specialties. Have fun!
